This Is My New Jersey

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know I do everything I can to share what is great about the Garden State. From going down the shore, to our history, to our food, I firmly believe there is nowhere better to live.

Part of staying in the know in Jersey is watching News 12. While living in the shadow of New York, it is bordering on the impossible to get any news coverage of what happens in New Jersey. That’s why I have always loved News 12.

That is, until now.

A little more than two weeks ago, there was a major shakeup at the channel. Multiple employees were let go, both from the behind-the-scenes team as well as on-air reporters and meteorologists. I understand that the economy is rough right now, but people are still required to deliver the news and weather, as well as produce, direct, and edit segments.

This week new on-air talent started. Again, I don’t get it. Why would they cut so many people when they are going to just hire new employees? I have my suspicions, but no hard proof.

Now, I get it. People need jobs. I will ignore my urge to give the typical Jersey response and not say anything disparaging about the new people who are picking up the local reporting torch and carrying forward. I will, however, share plenty of disparaging opinions about News 12 after today’s news.

A Sad Goodbye to Brian Donohue

My favorite segment on News 12 is “Positively New Jersey” by Brian Donohue. Well, today I saw the following post:

I’ll put this a nicely as possible… News 12NJ, what the @#*&@!$%#&$# are you thinking???

Positively New Jersey was the absolute best part of that channel! How they could even consider cancelling it is just beyond me. And I give Mr. Donohue credit for sticking to his guns and walking away.

So what’s next for this intrepid bunch of reporters? No one knows just yet, except them. We all have that dream after we get whacked from a job of moving on and proving the old company wrong. I think they should join forces and create their own Justice League to cover the best New Jersey news and wipe the floor with News 12 New Jersey.
