If you know me, you know how much I truly detest winter. The cold. The wind. The snow. All of it. It is this time of year I wish we could move New Jersey further south.
However, just because it is cold out doesn’t mean there is nothing to do. Yes, I admit, I spend most of my time indoors, but there are some awesome events taking place both inside and outside.
Northern Pike
Fishing Seminar
The NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s R3 Fishing Program is hosting a free seminar on how to fish for northern pike. This seminar is intended for experienced anglers seeking to gain practical knowledge to target this cool water species. The seminar will be led by NJ Fish & Wildlife fisheries biologist and fishing enthusiast, Justin Rozema and will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Middlesex Public Library, 1300 Mountain Avenue, Middlesex, NJ. This is a free event, but registration is required.
Old-Fashioned Valentine’s Day
Enjoy the wintery landscape at Howell Living History Farm in Mercer County on February 15th. Couples can take a romantic spin in a two-seater sleigh or carriage pulled by a team of light workhorses. Or, the whole family can enjoy ride in a bobsled or hay wagon. Then enjoy a hot cup of soup at the farmhouse!
Clinton, NJ 16th Annual Yuletide Bonfire + Fireworks
Enjoy a traditional bonfire, hot chocolate, cookies, and marshmallow roasting at the Clinton Yuletide Bonfire and Fireworks event. The free event takes place at Hunts Mill Park, 32 Hover Farm Road in Clinton and begins at 6:00 p.m. Attendees are requested to bring a canned food item for the Open Cupboard Food Pantry.
Monmouth Battlefield First Sunday Walk
On Sunday, March 2nd, the Friends of Monmouth Battlefield will host a free guided afternoon walk across the Battlefield. Walks are free and a great way to better understand this important Battlefield. The walk will start at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park’s Visitor Center at 1:30 p.m. and will finish at 4:00 p.m. It is still a chilly time of year, so make sure to bundle up!
These are just a few of the many awesome winter events taking place from one end of the state to another. Hopefully these events help you get through the winter. Remember, spring is only 41 days away and Memorial Day weekend is 15 weeks away. Hopefully it will be here before we know it!
