This Is My New Jersey

All that is great about the Garden State!

Hey, FIFA – It’s in New Jersey!

There are times I love New York. My first date with my now husband was at South Street Seaport. Every year we would go see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center. Once a year I used to go in on my own to wander through the vintage stores and used book shops.

Today is not one of those times.

We are… New York?

Years ago when New Jersey hosted the Super Bowl, New York got top billing. I complained about it then on a blog where I used to complain about things that bugged me.

Needless to say, this is bugging me… again. This time it is the FIFA World Cup. Now, I will say I really don’t care about soccer. And yes, before someone jumps all over me, I am completely aware it is the most popular sport in the world. Honestly, I barely watch sports anymore; but that’s a story for another day.

Back to what sent me over the edge. Here’s the official poster.

Yeah, I’m sure you see my issue. And let’s go one step further. They have renamed the stadium temporarily “New York New Jersey Stadium.”

Now, let’s be clear – Locals don’t call it “Met Life Stadium,” we call it Giants Stadium. But for those who are coming here for the soccer games:

  • It is officially Met Life Stadium in NEW JERSEY
  • It is located in East Rutherford, NEW JERSEY
  • The Statue of Liberty is within the border of NEW JERSEY
  • The train that will take you back and forth to the stadium is NEW JERSEY Transit
  • It is next to the American Dream Mall in NEW JERSEY
  • The nearby highways are Rt. 3, Rt. 120, Rt. 95, and the NEW JERSEY Turnpike

Feeling a trend here?

So, in case you are still confused, the games are in NEW JERSEY. Not new york (using lowercase for added effect). If you ask someone from JERSEY where the stadium is located in new york, you will not make friends and we will probably not help you. And if you think we will care if you don’t like us, we won’t.

It's New Jersey, not New York
